Katie: So first of all.. what was the inspiration behind this? By the looks of it, you’re quite a VA fan yourself – did that come in to play when making the decision to go ahead with this (VA UG)?
Michelle Rowan: I didn’t have anything to do with the planning. When I heard it was a project, I definitely threw my hat in the ring to be considered as the writer, and I’m very happy to have been chosen. It’s been a lot of work, so if I wasn’t already in love with the series it would be much more difficult. Being a fan is definitely an asset when it comes to my enthusiasm for this fantastic project.

K: How long has the project been in the works? How many hours have you spent/do you envision will be spent on it?
MR: It’s been in the works, I would assume, for a long time. I have officially been on board since very early this year and have known about it a few months prior to that. Not sure how many hours I’ve spent — I’ve read the books over again very slowly, making notes as I go. So…a lot of hours of Dimitri goodness. I can’t complain.

K: What is the best part about compiling the info, and what is the hardest?
MR: The best part is getting the chance to be a part of the VA world of books which I’ve admired since I read the very first one. The hardest part is worrying that I’m putting enough info in, presenting it in a readable way, so somebody who loves the series will enjoy this Guide. I don’t want Richelle’s awesome fans to be disappointed.

K: Do your copies of the Vampire Academy series have notes scribbled all over the margins now, or post it’s stuck right through the page of them? (I know mine are! hehe).
MR: I was lucky enough to be given a new set of books so I wouldn’t have to mark up my own copies. The books I’m using for this project are now very battered and marked up and the spines broken beyond repair. It hurts me a little to do that to a book, but I had no choice!

Please note as this awesome interview is quite long – we have the beginnings of it here, and the FULL INTERVIEW here!
